After Morbius, Sony is getting ready to release another Marvel film, Kraven the Hunter, and audiences are crossing their fingers that it does better than some of Sony’s other recent efforts.
\The film is scheduled for release on January 13, 2023, and it will chronicle the journey of Russian immigrant Sergei Kravinoff as he sets out to prove that he is the greatest hunter in the world.
Alessandro Nivola and Christopher Abbott were both announced earlier this year as playing antagonists in the film. Furthermore, Fred Hechinger has joined the cast as one of the film’s main antagonists.
The specific character Nivola plays in the Spider-Man canon is also unknown at this time. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nivola talked about his role in Kraven the Hunter and why he thinks it’s better to film on location than in front of a green screen.
Nivola is relieved that he is not working on the typical superhero movie, and the actor has no plans to don tights in the near future.
Fans, on the other hand, are extremely excited about Kraven the Hunter because the studio desperately needs it to be a commercial success after the infamous failure of Morbius.
Sony Has a Packed Schedule Ahead
Sony has been gradually expanding their Spider-Man shared universe, but the titular hero has been conspicuously absent from each new instalment.
Tom Hardy and Michelle Williams starred in the 2018 film adaptation of the comic book Venom, which was released in theatres.
Despite receiving reviews that were mostly negative, the movie was a commercial success, bringing in $856 million on a budget of only $100 million at the box office.
Three years later, in 2016, Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released, starring not only Tom Hardy but also Woody Harrelson. The sequel was met with negative reviews and had a box office return of $506 million, which was down from its previous total.
Morbius was finally made available to the public earlier this year. Despite receiving negative reviews, the film grossed $163 million domestically on a budget of only $75 million.
After the movie became a meme, it was re-released in theatres, where it was met with the same level of critical and commercial failure as before.
Sony was dealt a significant blow with the film starring Jared Leto, and the company now has a lot riding on the success of its upcoming films.
In addition to Kraven, there are a few other films that have been confirmed to be in the works. One of these is Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, which will likely do well at the box office despite the fact that it is not a part of the live-action universe.
In addition, Sony has films based on Madame Web, The Sinister Six, and Black Cat in the works, and the company is counting on the success of these movies to ensure the continuity of their shared universe.
However, for the time being, we will have to hold off until Kraven the Hunter, which is the upcoming film in the Spider-Man universe.
