Jerry Bruckheimer Addresses Possibility of Top Gun 3

Due to Top Gun: Maverick’s continued financial success, studios may be thinking about making more instalments in the series.

Would the nostalgia that helped the belated sequel to the 1986 movie become a success also carry over into a third movie? The film, starring Tom Cruise, has seen renewed interest thanks to the success of its belated sequel. When and if Top Gun 3 is made is of the utmost importance to producer Jerry Bruckheimer.

The release of Top Gun: Maverick this year, following a lengthy COVID delay, caught everyone by surprise. Not only did it become the highest-grossing film of the year, but it also rocketed up the all-time list of highest-grossing films, landing in 12th place globally and sixth place domestically (beating out the mighty Avengers: Infinity War).

Of course, with that kind of success comes the pressure to expect a sequel right away, but that may not be the case with the Top Gun franchise.

Jerry Bruckheimer is playing his cards close to his chest when it comes to talking about potential sequels, spinoffs, or even a TV series for the year’s most successful film. Radio Times recently conducted an interview with the show’s producer, who revealed the following:

Top Gun: Maverick Surpassed All Expectations This Summer

Even though this year was widely anticipated to be a successful one for Marvel Studios at the box office, with sequels such as Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Thor: Love and Thunder thought to be the most likely candidates to be the highest-grossing movies of the year, along with the likes of Jurassic World: Dominion, no one really saw Top Gun: Maverick having a real chance to top the year’s box office.

Although Top Gun was successful in 1986, it did not significantly outperform any other film that was released during the ’80s in terms of critical acclaim or financial take at the box office.

It was believed that Top Gun: Maverick would join other legacy sequels that brought a nostalgic hit for many older fans and did enough to warrant the movie’s being made. This was the primary reason why it was thought that the movie would be made.

Instead, the movie has grossed over $1.4 billion, and it now appears that it will be a success all over again when it is made available on digital home release, in addition to the Blu-ray and DVD releases that are still to come.

However, the actor is not resting on his laurels and will soon be seen in the two-part Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, which may or may not be his final M:I movie, and he has plenty of other films in the pipeline.

The film has become Tom Cruise’s biggest ever movie hit, which is also something that can be said for Paramount Pictures.

For this reason alone, another sequel to Top Gun could be made at some point in the future, but it’s highly unlikely that Tom Cruise will be a part of it, and doing so might be a very big mistake.
